Hilly Philly 2019

Everyone knows someone who has been afflicted by cancer. Gary Brown is someone who has taken his loss, and put it into action. For over 18 years, Gary has ridden the Bike a Thon and has raised over $35,000 for the American Cancer Society by taking part in many ACS cycling events over the years. In 2019, the goal is to raise $7,000 with such events like the Hilly Philly bike tour.

Gary Brown created Hilly Philly, his own cycling event in his hometown of Roxborough. He wanted to bring his love of cycling and his support of the American Cancer Society together.

On Sunday, August 4, 2019 the 6th annual Hilly Philly took place. Hilly Philly is a  26 mile ride with over 2.500 feet of elevation. The 37 riders met at Great Life Chiropractic, located in the Roxborough part of Philadelphia. The aim was to tackle the surrounding hills in the neighborhood for a good cause. It is a very challenging route for beginners and experts alike.

When I started cycling in 2014, Hilly Philly was my 2nd cycling event. During my 1st ride I was  the oldest and the slowest. I continue to participate every year to support ACS and to improve as a cyclist. I may still be the oldest, but I am no longer the slowest.

As a  “no drop ride” it means you will never be left behind and they mean it.  Gary makes sure everyone stays together and is safe. This ride is a great way to challenge yourself and support a great cause.

This year, Hilly Philly has raised over $2,000 from the cost of the ride to the generous donations of the riders at the raffle party. There was an even bigger donation made by Trek of Manayunk.  2 Brand new bikes! So if you would still like to donate for one of the 2 bikes that will fit you and your needs, there is still time to donate!

You only have until Thursday August 8th. With every $20 donation you will be entered into the contest to win one of two Trek bikes.

Make sure you specify the bike you want in the notes. Specify, "blue bike" or black bike" and how many chances you donated for. (example $40 donation "2 tickets for the blue bike" in the notes.) There are only 100 tickets for each bike available! Donate $100 and you will have a 1 in 20 chance of winning a $1000 bike!
